Responsibility of the Peer Reviewer

A peer reviewer critically reads and evaluates a manuscript within their field of expertise and provides respectful, constructive and honest feedback. The reviewer should discuss strengths and weaknesses, recommend improvements and assess the relevance, originality and academic quality of the work.

Before Accepting a Review

  • If the manuscript does not match your expertise, inform the editor promptly and, where possible, suggest an alternative reviewer.
  • Reviews should ordinarily be completed within two weeks. If this is not possible, notify the editor immediately.
  • Treat all manuscript information as privileged and strictly confidential.
  • Do not review a manuscript where competitive, collaborative, personal or institutional relationships create a conflict of interest.
  • Provide evidence-based, objective and constructive comments without personal criticism.
